Covid-19 Guest information

We are looking forward to a new ski season welcoming new and returning guests! It may be experienced a bit differently in times due to Covid-19, but with facilitation we will ensure that it is safe for both you as a guest and for our staff. We therefore work continuously with facilitation to protect you and us against infection.

We will do our best for you as a guest to experience this season as normal as possible. We are then dependent on that you also follow and stay up to date on the advice given.

When you visit us, we ask you to follow the three basic principles:

1 – Keep the distance from people who are not part of your daily household

2 – Practice good hand hygiene; wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer and sneeze or cough info your elbow

3 – Go home if you feel unwell

Below you will find information, rules and recommendations that apply to the ski centre:

Ski pass
To prevent queues, we encourage you to buy your ski pass online which give you a 10% discount.
When buying a ski pass, it is mandatory to register your name and telephone number. This is something we are required to do in relation to Covid-19 tracking.
You can buy the ski pass here. As soon as you have placed the order, you will receive a confirmation by email. This confirmation contains a QR code, which you can scan (completely touch-less) in one of our 13 different pick-up boxes located at the hotels and ski pass sales in Geilo. The QR code can be read directly from your mobile screen. If you do not have the opportunity to buy ski pass in our online store, we are of course helpful in one of our ticket sales.

Rental shop
All rental equipment including skis, poles and helmets are sanitized after each use.
This year in particular, we recommend you to pre-order your equipment online. You can order here. If you do not have the opportunity to rent equipment in our online store, we are of course helpful in our ski rental on arrival.

Ski school
Ski and snowboard lessons are arranged as normal but with some changes to accommodate after covid-19 restrictions and our guest’s safety. We primarily recommend booking private ski school but will also arrange group ski school (all group sizes will be limited so that we can maintain distance). If you are 4 people in the same family / household / group on the same level, we can also arrange a private group course. Get in touch at booking@geiloskiskole.no.

  • Only 1 adult follows and picks up children at the meeting point
  • Sick children should not participate in ski lessons
  • Keep 1 meter apart
  • Arrive well in advance so that organization and distance become easier to maintain
  • All students must wear a helmet, mittens / gloves and ski goggles.
  • The instructor will inform the students about infection prevention and how to keep their distance on skis, when we stop, in the lift, etc.
  • We recommend that all children have been to the toilet before the ski school starts to avoid the instructor having to accompany the child.
  • Change of groups / putting groups together will only take place if absolutely necessary. (It is important that you register your child for the correct group course based on our level descriptions)

It will still be possible to order ski school directly over the reception on arrival but remember that by pre-ordering online you are guaranteed a place.
You can pre-book group ski school here. For private lessons contact us on +47 32 09 03 70 or booking@geiloskiskole.no

Managing physical distancing
In SkiGeilo we will do several measures in the mountain and the common areas to ensure all can responsibly manage physical distancing and keep everyone safe.
•    Our Guest Service Team will control the lift- and ski bus queues to make sure the proper distance is kept.
•    Single gate will be closed to make sure people from different households will not share lifts
•    All indoor areas where we may expect queues will have floor marking showing the proper distance to fellow guest
•    All our restaurants, ski school, and ski busses will have capacity limitations to ensure physical distancing

Lift queues and chairlifts
When in a lift queue, chairlift, or T-Bar, you can be with other members of your household, but you must keep a proper distance between yourself and other guests you do not know. Just remember tip to tail while in the queue! Our lift staff and service team will help you to remember distancing, in case you are having such a great time in the slopes that it slips your mind!
We do ask that when you are using chairlifts and T-bars you wear gloves.
Our staff will be regularly disinfecting every chair, button lift and t-bar, and other high touchpoints around the lift areas.
With physical distancing in lift queues, things might move a little slower than usual so we appreciate your patience and kindness while everyone enjoys the slopes.

Food & beverage
Our F&B areas are always operating under strict rules and guidelines from the Department of Health.
We have different solutions in our 7 different eateries, and we can guarantee they are all operating with very high cleaning standards and all the tables will be spaced appropriately. In some restaurants, you will experience table service, and in others take away or over-the-counter service. In some, you might also order your meal from an app on your phone!
We will have floor markings and signage to help our guests remember to keep a distance from other guests.
If you are bringing your own lunch to the mountain, you may enjoy this at our designated lunch rooms. Of course, the same high cleaning standards will apply here as well. Our indoor dining areas will be reserved for guests purchasing food and/or drinks in our restaurants.

Our fantastic Staff
Our staff will do everything they can to keep themselves and our guest’s safe while on our mountain. All our staff has to complete a Corona-awareness-test, including updated regulations, hygiene requirements, and other important information before they are allowed to meet our guests or even work “behind the scenes” in SkiGeilo. We have an absolute “Stay home” policy if any employees feel unwell, and we are very much aware our most important task is to make sure both our staff and our guests feel safe and protected in our mountains.

We would like to go cash-less (but we have not yet!)
As per Norwegian law, we are not allowed to not accept cash as a valid payment. However, we do prefer that you use a debit or credit card. BTW: Did you know that you can also load money on to your SmartCard prior to arriving on the mountain? Just to keep it as easy as possible when skiing! You can load up money to your SmartCard here
